Presentation "Federal Week 2015"

77th Federal International week of cycle tourism.

Each year the 1st week of August since 1967, the French and Foreigners are meeting to discover the beauties and local attractions.
This week organized by the French Federation is the biggest gathering of cycle tourists in European attracts nearly 15.000 people every year, 1.500 of whom are foreign riders.
After Niort in 2012, and St Pourçain-sur-Sioule in 2014, Albi will organize in 2015 the 77th week.
This event will allow the cycle tourists and their families to discover the culture and gastronomy of the region in a spirit of friendship and fun.
The cycle fans will ride on dozens of roads and mountains circuits. The attendants can could go hiking alongside well-signposted walking trails and tours will enable them to appreciate the most prestigious sites of the Tarn and Midi-Pyrénées region.
All, tall and small, will share their enthusiasm among a friendly and warm atmosphere for the best spirit of tourism and bike leisure, combining sport, health and culture, without any kind of competition.
2.000 volunteers will be ready to welcome them so as they can enjoy the touristic discovery of the region with their family.

The Federal International week of cycle tourism
will take place from the 2 to 9 August 2015

For you, the opportunity to discover the Tarn area with its wealth. Wandering in Albi, the episcopal city, classified a UNESCO world heritage site, you will visit the world’s largest brick cathedral, the Toulouse-Lautrec museum, the private mansions which even today can testify the pasteliers‘ prosperity. You will discover too the towns and villages of the Tarn known for their history, landscapes, gastronomy or else their vineyards.

Programme of the week

Every day different circuits to discover the Tarn are proposed :
Sunday, August 2
Carmaux basin area and Tarn Segala.
The region you will be travelling on is characterized by coal extract. For almost 3 centuries, the exploitation of the subsurface has shaped the countryside, the men and their culture.

Monday, August 3
The Pays de Cocagne (the Land of plenty).
Pastel and Catharism day : two marks of the past, one concerning trade and wealth, the other a religious expression and its repression

Tuesday, August 4
Pink garlic from Lautrec, Castres and The Sidobre.
This day will lead you through the pink garlic Lautrec area (PGI European label), jewel of French gastronomy, to the huge and curious rock formations of the Sidobre area going through Castres, rugby country;
You cannot remain indifferent to either places

Wednesday, August 5
Bastides and Gresigne Land.
A full interesting day : 6 routes to explore. A great day to discover the regional heritage; 3 villages promoted “Most Beautiful Villages of France”, and Cordes-sur-Ciel, “France Favourite Village” in 2014 are scheduled.

Thursday, August 6
Cap Découverte.
For some, a well-deserved day off in the Cap Découverte leisure Park. Playgrounds and recreation for children.

Friday, August 7
Gaillac vineyard and red brick country.
“Drink or drive (the bike) you have to choose”. Total immersion in the Gaillac vineyard, on little country roads winding through it, between graceful umbrella pines and many dovecotes.

Saturday, August 8
The Tarn Valley and Oc Highlands.
We could not let you go without showing the Tarn Valley, upstream Albi, to visit the Ambialet peninsula. A spur of schistose rock is surrounded by a meander of the Tarn over 3km long. This unique site, has been for more than 2 hundred years the most important Albigeois stronghold, still bears the traces of a prestigious history. Then, up from Alban and the Oc Highlands, you will contemplate this marvel.

Where to eat and sleep ?

Several kinds of accommodation : the federal campsite, bed and breakfast, collective housing and traditional places (“gîtes”, hotels, guest houses, …)
Every evening a lunch is provided at the headquarters; at noon, reception points on the circuit will welcome you to eat and have fun.
